What’s up, everybody? I’m Logan from Sleepo polis. Today, I’ll be counting down the top 10 mattresses of 2020. During the video, I’m going to go over why each of these mattresses made the list, but if you’re interested in finding out more and want to read the full reviews, you can head over at sleepopolis.com. You’ll find them under the Mattress Reviews drop-down in the navbar at the top of the screen. While there, you’ll also be able to find up-to-date pricing information as well as the latest coupons and deals to save some money.
For right now, let’s jump into the list. First up on the list is the Casper, my choice as the best mattress for back pain. One of the most common reasons people are looking for a new mattress is that they are experiencing back pain when they wake up in the morning. The most important aspect for combating aches and pains in the lower back is proper spinal alignment. The Casper uses a zone-support system. That means it’s going to be firmer at thehips and softer at the shoulders.
That’s going to allow you to sink into the mattress where you need it the most and promote side-sleeping spinal alignment. Along with zone-support system, the Casper has a medium-firm feel that I like for those that switch from their back to their side through out the middle of the night. I should mention that the all-foam version is the most popular Casper and probably the one that you’ve heard of before. They also have a hybrid version that use spocketed coils for support, gives the mattress a little bit more bounce.
Regardless of whether you go with the all-foam or the hybrid version, if you’re suffering from back pain, the Casper should be top ofyour list. [music] Logan: Next up is the Layla, my choice asthe best memory foam mattress. Memory foam has been around for a while. It’s one of the most common materials usedin bedding today, known for providing a body contouring feel as sleepers sink into bed. Memory foam mattresses can be great for relievingpressure.
The Layla is actually a flippable mattress. One side facing up is going to give you afirmer feel, and the other side, softer comfort. Regardless of which side of the Layla youchoose, it’s going to use memory foam for comfort. The firmer side has about an inch of memoryfoam, giving it a medium feel in my opinion. The soft side of the Layla has three inchesof memory foam on top for comfort, giving you a much pleasure feel. Along with great pressure relief, memory foamcan also do a great job of isolating motion transfer. However, one common complaint with the materialis that it does trap a bit of body heat.
To combat that, Layla has included a copperinfusion to help draw heat away from the sleeper. Positionally, if you’re a back sleeper, Iwould recommend you go with the firmer side of the Layla, and the side sleepers go withthe soft side of the Layla mattress. However, regardless of which side of mattressyou choose, if you love the feel of memory foam, you’re going to love the Layla mattress. [music] Logan: Next up, Helix is my choice as thebest hybrid mattress. For those of you looking at bed-in-a-box mattressesthat are a little concerned about all-foam beds, a hybrid mattress could be a great choice.
Using a mixture of foam and coil layers, hybridmattresses provide the comfort, support, and bounce you might be used to out of a traditionalinner spring. Helix makes a wide range of hybrid mattresseswith different firmnesses and feels, so you’re going to find the right mattress for yourspecific sleep style. The Helix standard line has different feels, such as the soft, Sunset and Moonlight; the medium firmness, Midnight and Dusk; and thefirmer versions which are the Twilight and Dawn mattresses. They also have the Helix Plus, which is builtwith stronger support with the specific needs of heavier folks in mind. Finally, they also offer the Helix Luxe line, which has a bit more of a solid build to it and extra comfort.
Regardless of what kind of mattress you’relooking for, if you’re looking at hybrid beds, Helix definitely has something for you. [music] Logan: The WinkBed is my choice as the bestpillow-top mattress. If you’re someone who’s looking for a nicemix of support and pressure relief, a pillow-top bed could be a good choice for you. Using a mixture of gel-infused, hyper-softfoams, micro-coils, all-over pocketed-coil support, the WinkBed is a great example ofa well-built pillow-top bed. The WinkBed is a bed-in-a-box hybrid mattressthat comes in three different firmness levels. You’ll be able to find the right support foryour specific sleep preferences.
While you will sink into those soft foamson top, the coil-on-coil structure below provides great balance and mobility. Along with all that, the WinkBed uses a Tencelcover. Tencel is a natural material that’s breathable. It pairs nicely with the gel infusion andthe foams to provide some nice cooling to the mattress. It also has a great zone-support system, whichis important for side-sleeping spinal alignment, something we talked about before as beingreally important for avoiding back pain. All in all, I think the WinkBed is the bestpillow-top mattress you can buy online. [music] Logan: Next on the list is the Bear mattress,my choice as the best mattress for athletes.
If you lead an active lifestyle, you knowthat recovery is just as important as exercise. While stretching and healthy eating can helpwith that, a good night of sleep is the best way to get your energy levels back up. The Bear mattress is an all-foam, bed-in-a-boxoption that has a firmer feel to keep your hips from sinking in and promote spinal alignment. It also uses graphite-infused memory foamfor a bit of contouring comfort. The thing that sets the Bear apart from otherall-foam mattresses is the Celliant cover. Celliant is a really interesting material, because there is some evidence that suggests that it helps with athletic recovery.
Along with that, it’s a breathable material. It pairs nicely with the graphite infusionin the memory foam to help the mattress sleep a bit cooler. If you are looking for an edge in recovery, check out the Bear mattress. [music] Logan: Next up, the Nolah Signature is mychoice as the best mattress for side sleepers. Some of the most common complaints I hearfrom side sleepers is that if a mattress is too firm, it can cause shoulder and hip pain. If the mattress doesn’t provide enough relief,it can cause a jammed-up feeling because all the weight is focused on one side. It can eventually lead to back pain as well.
To ensure the proper pressure relief and side-sleepingalignment, I present you with the Nolah Signature. It’s an all-foam bed that uses a memory foamsubstitute so you can sink deep into the mattress. Technically, the Nolah Signature is a flippablemattress, but I think the side sleepers should just stick with the soft side. I mentioned before that it uses a memory foamsubstitute. It’s called AirFoam. It will provide the same soft feel and bodycontouring you might expect out of memory foam, but it’s a bit more open-sealed andbreathable, so it sleeps a bit cooler. Along with those properties, it also has greatmotion isolation just like memory foam, so it’s a good choice for the couples out there. If you’re a side sleeper looking for a softerfeel, you should definitely check out the Nolah Signature.
The Birch is my choice as the bestlatex mattress. Most of the mattresses you’re going to findonline utilize memory or polyurethane foams. Latex can be another great option for you. If you’ve never slept on a latex mattress,it’s a bouncy material that does a great job of dissipating body heat and also tends tobe a bit more durable than other foams out there. The Birch is a hybrid mattress that utilizesTalalay latex and pocketed coils for strong support and mobility. Along with great bounce, cooling, and durability, latex has the added bonus of being a natural material, pairing nicely with the cotton coverof the Birch to make it a great organic choice for those looking to avoid chemicals in theirmattress.
When I tested it, I found that the standardversion of the Birch had the strong support that I like for back and stomach sleepers. However, they also offer a latex topper ifyou want to soften it up a little bit for the side sleepers out there. If you’re looking for a latex mattress, yoursearch should start with Birch. [music] Logan: Next up on the list is the Aurora mattressfrom Brooklyn Bedding, my choice as the best cooling mattress. One of the most common problems we hear fromour customers is that they are overheating. If you’re someone who’s kicking off the coversduring the middle of the night, one issue might be that the materials in your mattressare trapping body heat.
The Brooklyn Aurora was specifically designed with cooling in mind, using Brooklyn Bedding’s proprietary TitanFlex foam and cool-to-the-touchphase-change material cover to help dissipate that body heat. Along with its great cooling properties, I found that the Brooklyn Aurora has a softer feel that I like for the side sleepers outthere. It also did a great job of isolating motiontransfer. I was impressed with its edge support, which are two great signs for the couples out there. Finally, while you will sink into the mattressfor pressure relief, it has great bounce and mobility, so you don’t have to worry about getting stuck in the layers.
If you’re someone who is worried about overheatingin the middle of the night, check out the Brooklyn Aurora. [music] Logan: Next up, the Nectar is my choice asthe best mattress for the money. I’ve already counted down a number of greatbeds for different sleep styles and preferences. If you’re less concerned with materials andsleeping position and just want the best deal, the Nectar is a great choice. It’s an all-foam, bed-in-a-box mattress thatuses a total of five inches of memory foam for comfort, providing deep sinkage and bodycontouring. All of that memory foam is why I like theNectar for the side sleepers out there.
If you’re worried about pressure buildup, then this mattress can help. All that memory foam also helps to tamp down on disturbance if you share your bed with a restless sleeper. If you’re a memory-foam lover looking fora great deal, then check out the Nectar. Last but not least is the Saatva, my choice as the best mattress for heavy people. I’ve covered beds for different sleeping positions and made from different mattress materials. I also want to give a great option for the heavy folks out there. If you’re a bit to the heavier side, you knowthat not all mattresses are built for you to sleep comfortably, which brings me to the Saatva, which is a traditional innerspring mattress with a solid build made from qualitymaterials.
The Saatva’s coil-on-coil structure providesgreat bounce and support. You won’t have to worry about feeling stuckin a mattress. If you’re not convinced that the standard Saatva is going to be firm enough for you, they also offer the Saatva HD, which is amattress that’s specifically designed with the needs of heavier folks in mind. It’s a solid durable mattress. If you’re someone who’s a little bit on theheavier side looking for proper support, you should head over to Saatva. Along with information about the mattresses I’ve covered today, I also wanted to answer a few frequently asked questions that we ge there at Sleepopolis.
First up, when is the best time to buy a mattress? There are a few standard weekends such asPresidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday that have a great sales fromlot of different mattress companies. However, if you want to buy one not duringthat time, you can head over to Sleepopolis to check out great coupon information fora lot of top brands. Next step, one of those common questions we’reasked is, how often should I replace my mattress? While there’s not a set number of years, it’sactually more about how worn in your mattress is. If your mattress is sagging and it’s not providingthe same support you’re used to, it’s time to update.
Finally and possibly the most important questionis, how do I choose a mattress? When someone ask me for a recommendation, the things that I ask is what position you sleep in. If you’re a side-sleeper, I generally recommenda softer mattress, back or stomach sleepers, something with a little bit firmer support. After that, it’s what kind of materials areyou looking for? Do you like sinking into bed? Do you want that contouring feel of memory foam? Do you want to feel more on top of the mattresslike latex will provide?
Are you worried about heat trap? In which case, you should go with a latex mattress or something with some kind of gel infusion to help draw heat away from the sleeper. Are you looking for natural or organic materials? Then you’re probably going to want to go with a latex mattress. Finally, do you share your bed with a partner? In which case, you have to worry about motiontransfer and also possibly compromising on the firmness of a mattress.
